A couple of Kids Books

Occasionally I will read a kids book, to preview for my kids or just because I thought it sounded cute. Here a couple of those.

What Really Happened in Roswell? Just the Facts (Plus the Rumors) by Kathleen Krull and Christopher Santoro ~V^^^^^V
I loved this. Its a informative recounting of the events that occurred in and around the Roswell incident. The facts are recounted along with the "beliefs" of people involved. The book is an easy read for those new to longer (or "chapter") books. The illustrations are adorable and the open ended, "what do you think?" at the end of the book is perfect.


Monsters: Hologram World by Dugald A. Steer and Justine Peek ~V^^^^V 
A perfect seasonal read for younger kids. Its informative, giving facts along with mythological information. The illustrations and holograms are super fun.



Bailey School Kids: Aliens Don't Carve Jack o' Lanterns by Debbie Dadely, Marcia Thorton Jones and John Steven Gurney ~V^^^V
Pretty cute. This story is about the Bailey School kids preparing for Halloween. Along the way they discover an alien in their midst and all the candy has disappeared, just in time for the holiday. The kids need to save the day in more ways than one. ~Michelle

I liked that Anita is finally getting back to work and a little less adure stories. However I feel that the series and premise is established enough that I don't need recaps every book nor do I need to have extremely detailed and several chapter long sex scenes. I am so tired of Anita whining and obsessing over who she loves and the guilt is asinine. I am also VERY tired of the same crap different book, story line with Asher. I think I am about done reading this series. ~Michelle 

Kitty Steals the Show by Carrie Vaughn

Kitty's adventure to London was basically what I expected. Kitty finds trouble, or does trouble find her?" Either way she uses her usual method of talking her way around it. She meets some new allies, and old friends. She finds new enemies and in the end gets a little preachy. I feel like Cormac really has no place in the series and should just be dropped, and for the most part we don't need so much Ben detail either as he is merely a side character, really. I liked that Vaughn is embracing the coming out issue and not just skipping past it as so many other series do. ~Michelle

A well written story of the life of Buddha. Though the characters and the story itself is fictional, the lessons are very real. I enjoyed the humanization of a story that I have read almost clinically in the past. I was able to slip into the ancient Indian world and witness the life of Buddha as it may have happened. This is a book that I recommend for followers of the Buddha as well as newer, interested people. ~Michelle

There were things I liked about this book and others that drove me nuts. First of all Azami (Thorn) was a very interesting character, she kicks a lot of ass. He background was beyond tragic but I am still expecting to find Whitney knows of her. Sam is alright, I don't remember him from before but I am OK with it. The catch up with all the past characters was great as well. Feehan has stepped up her steam factor by using more commonly used Erotica terms so that was a bit shocking but acceptable. My main issues lie in the overuse of details and far to much dialogue unrelated to the main characters. The story seemed to drag and not have very much plot or overall story arch advancement. I find that much like many other Feehan stories this formula is getting old and over used. This is my favorite Feehan series, the one I haven't given up on yet. I am holding out hope that this is just a drab book and the next will be better. If not I will have to drop this series as well. =( ~Michelle 

Play It Safe by Kristin Ashley

I though for sure I would love this book because so many people have been talking up Kristin Ashley. Sadly all I can really say is that I liked it but just for the romance itself. I didn't care for the first person writing from Ivey's perspective for two reasons. Number one I am not sure I even liked Ivey, she rubbed me the wrong way. Second reason is that without a peak into Gray's head I didn't feel like I understood his actions. I felt Ivey was pretty slow on figuring out her brother's story and I felt Gray and the whole town of Mustang was way too lax on the Buddy situation. I liked the idea of Gray and Ivey together and I will say that they suffered their trials and tribulations enough that they deserved their HEA so I accept that. 

So for the most part I enjoyed the story even if grudgingly. I down graded this book mainly due to editing needs. There were many run-on sentences and paragraphs, the flow of the story was unsteady, and some sentences and phrases were doubled up. Descriptively the story was easily pictured but the conversations between characters were flat. The story would give me hour by hour details of mundane scenes and then completely skip more trivial ones. Really I think all of this could be cleared up with an editor, it may not be as bothersome to other readers but for me it was an issue. 

So long story short I give it a 3 out of 5. ~Michelle

Yet another series that I have not read yet. This one has been sitting on my TBR shelf for literally over a year. I guess I was just waiting for someone to read along with me.
