Lord's Fall

Lord's Fall (Elder Races #5) by Thea Harrison ~V^^V

BLURB:  In the latest Novel of the Elder Races, two mates find themselves on different paths, torn between their duty to the Wyr and the passion that binds them…

Before she met Dragos, half-human/half-Wyr Pia Giovanni was alone and on the run. Now she’s mated, pregnant and heading south to repair the Wyrs’ frayed relationship with the Elves. Being separated from Dragos is painful, but for the good of the Wyr demesne they need to figure out how to be partners—in more places than just the bedroom.

In New York to preside over the Sentinel Games, Dragos is worried about his mate, but knows that finding two replacement sentinels is essential to show the rest of the Elder Races just how strong and brutal the Wyr demesne can be. But as the Games heat up, Pia’s negotiations with the Elves take a turn for the dangerous, straining her bond with Dragos and threatening everything they hold dear.

MY THOUGHTS:  This book has REALLY high ratings and almost all the reviews are gushing but I have to say I am not seeing it.

Well after completion I can say that I found it disappointing. Pia and Dragos are not together for the first half of the book and then after that it was really just blah. There were two different stories happening and it was just not working. I could have really cared less about either. I really would rather have had more Pia and Dragos living life together, not dealing with everyone else. I also found the birth of "peanut" to be very short and not as good as it could have been. 2 stars at best. ~MICHELLE

Dark Storm by Christine Feehan Review

Dark Storm (Dark #23) by Christine Feehan ~V^V

Blurb:  Awakening after all this time in a world of absolute darkness and oppressive heat, Dax wonders in how many ways the world above must have changed. But it is how he has changed that fills him with dread and loathing. Buried alive for hundreds of years in a volcano in the Carpathian Mountains, Dax fears that he has become the full-fledged abomination that every Carpathian male fears, a victim of the insidious evil that has crept relentlessly into his mind and body over the centuries. But there are some things that never change.

His name is Mitro, the vampire Dax had hunted all these long centuries. Second in command to the prince of the Carpathian people he is the epitome of everything malevolent, and perpetrator of one of the most shocking killing sprees known to man - and beast. Even his friends and family weren't safe from Mitro's bloodlust. Neither was Mitro's lifemate, Arabejila, an extraordinary woman with extraordinary gifts. But now that Dax has re-emerged, so too has Mitro. The ultimate battle between good and evil has been re-engaged. Between Dax and Mitro, a violent game has begun - one that has marked Riley Parker, the last descendent of Arabejila, as the reward.

My Thoughts:  How many times will I fall for this series? The books are nothing more than copy and paste at this point. Well actually since about 10 books in they have been. Dax and Riley are nothing different, the overall plot hasn't advanced, at all, and the characters are pretty vanilla. I KNOW, I will fall for it once the next book comes out and read it but I will be damned if I will purchase anymore. PLEASE, put this series out of its misery. ~Michelle

How to Drive a Dragon Crazy by G.A. Aiken

How to Drive a Dragon Crazy (Dragon Kin #6) by G.A. Aiken ~V^^^V

This story was pretty straight forward. The romance was just that, boy and girl know each other, fight the pull and eventually come together. It was pretty Blah. I know a lot of people were anticipating this one, I was not. Neither character did much for me. I had noticed in the previous book as in this one, Aiken is taking this to a fantasy genre, less romance. The end result is a good story but not a good romance. Overall the book was OK, not great and not awful. ~Michelle

Dragon Kin by G.A. Aiken

Dragon Kin by G.A. Aiken ~V^^^V
I haven't read the one that JUST came out but I will review and add it once I get it done. Overall this is a pretty fun series. There is plenty of steam and some humor mixed in as well.

Can't Get Enough ~V^^^V
I only read the G.A. Aiken contribution to this Anthology so far. Can't Get Enough is a prequel to her Dragon Kin series. I enjoyed it. Short enough to not drag out some things and still long enough to get a good feel for the relationship between Ailean and Shalin. There was a perfect amount of steam and romance. I am going to continue working my way through this series

Dragon Actually ~V^^^V
Though this is the first full book in the series it is not the first story. Nonetheless it was an excellent introduction. The two main characters were a lot of fun together and I really enjoyed their courtship. Not normally a fan of medieval romance, occasionally I find one that is interesting enough. This was one. I enjoyed the first story in the book. The second one, was not as much to my liking.

About a Dragon ~V^^^V
I would like to give this book more stars but it was just pretty slow for the most part. If I get to a point that I am feeling like a book is dragging on and has too many pages to get to the point then it doesn't get more than 3 stars even if I liked it. Now I LIKED this book but I didn't love it. Talaith and Briec are hilarious but annoying. They seemed to spend all their time bickering, so much so I wasn't sure I liked either of them. In the end I found that it was fairly amusing. There is enough interaction with other Dragon Kin and past characters that they book was interesting in that aspect as well. If Aiken could have gotten to the action and the meat of the story sooner I think I would have given it more stars. I am enjoying this series and will be continuing.

What a Dragon Should Know ~V^^^^V
This one was a little slow getting started but once it got there it was excellent. I have to mention that I read this one out of order so I was a little confused on some names and series developments but I ended up getting it mostly sorted out. Initially I didn't like Dagmar because she comes off very self centered, even more so than Gwenvael believe it or not. (Which as a side note here I am going to say that the names in this series seem gender reversed so I again got all confused.) The sad thing is that she thinks she doesn't matter to her father, or does she try to convince herself of that? Either way this book is more than just a romance. There is a definite overall story arch and it is really quite interesting. AT this point I can see myself really becoming more interested than I was in the first few. I will say that there is just the right amount of steam and humor in this series as well. Check them out.

Last Dragon Standing ~V^^V

I really had a hard time finishing this one. Keita pretty much just annoyed me. She was very much the spoiled diva and while Ragnar was OK he just was too lenient. Some of the things I like about this series are the updates with everyone else. That was a bonus for me and pretty much made the book as enjoyable as it could. I am planning on continuing the series because I am committed to so many other characters.

Dragon on Top ~V^^^V
I really enjoyed it, this series is always fun. Actually this whole anthology is worth the read.

The Dragon Who Loved Me ~V^^^V
This book was better than the last. Vigholf the Abhorrent aka Sir-Eats-a-Lot is so naive its funny. Rhona, a Caladwar dragoness, kicks major ass. I loved them together. First Rhona just hates Vigholf and can't seem to get rid of him. After a bit he starts to grow on her and soon they have fallen for one another. I liked the updates with the other couples and the war ending. I was so glad that the ending brought all of the couples and children back together. My only major complaint about this book and in general this series is the repetition. Some scenarios are explained over and over again throughout this book. Almost seemed as though the plan was to fill as many pages as possible. I will be staying up to date with this series, as it comes out.

How to Drive a Dragon Crazy, just released and again I haven't read it yet. I am currently waiting for my copy.

Elder Races by Thea Harrison

Elder Races Series by Thea Harrison ~V^^^^V

Dragon Bound ~V^^^^V
Fabulous book! Pia is so personable, I love how she says there is a lunatic living inside her body. She tends to run her mouth without thinking often and the results tend to be extremely funny. Dragos, oh what to say? He is an overbearing, bossy, super alpha. But God is he hot and so enticingly Alpha. The whole book you are left in the dark as to what Pia is (don't worry you will find out) and it is quite the suprise. Dragos being a dragon, can he handle it? I can say that this was an excellent introduction to a new series. I can't wait to continue.

Storm's Heart ~V^^^^^V
Tricks is awesome! I love her, she is all about having fun but she isn't an air head. Tiago is SUPER hot and the sexual tension is instantaneous. I really can't tell you how much I enjoyed this book. Suffice it to say it was fabulous from start to finish. Tricks has to take reprehensibility for the Dark Fae, as the heir she has her work cut out for her. Tiago and Tricks make an incredible team, TEAM being the optimal word there. Wonderful, just wonderful. I am loving this series.

Serpent's Kiss ~V^^^V
Wasn't quite as good as the first two in the series but nontheless it was enjoyable. The concept of time travel is rather confusing in books but I do enjoy it. The passion between the two main characters is intense and highly enjoyable. The whole time I couldn't imagine how Carling was going to manage to escape her death sentence. Hell at one point I was convinced that this would be the first romance I read that would end with the couple dieing together. Never fear though they get their HEA. I am going to keep going with this series.

True Colors ~V^^^V
Too short! That is my only complaint. I felt like it was a little rushed just because of the length. The story had all the things I have come to expect from this series. Mystery, tension, romance and action. Everything was in a shorter form but it was still there. I am really enjoying this series. I am actually going to start Oracle's Moon as soon as I finish this review. So... In short I recommend this series, check it out.

Oracle's Moon ~V^^^V
I really liked Grace and Khalil. The whole story with the young children was wonderful as well. I think any mother can relate to a lot of that story. The things that kept this book from being a four or five star for me were... I didn't like how Grace and Khalil hated each other at first. I don't think there really was significant background to support it. The other problem is that the story tended toward dragging on for too long. Once there was a some action it, the book was nearly over and the action was very quick. This is a fun series though, it will be interesting to see what happens next.

Natural Evil ~V^^^V
I don't know why I read these novellas. This one was again too short. I wish the story had been a little longer. I felt like I was rushed the whole time. Claudia is retired military, just wondering the country until she comes upon a lump on the interstate. Turns out to be a large "dog" that is badly injured. She takes him to a vet and things develop from there. Initially this story didn't really pop for me, just seemed slow at the start. Then all of the sudden the whole case opens up and the action occurs rather quickly, only to slow way down again. Overall I liked the characters and I can say that there was plenty of steam when it was needed. I just felt like the pace was all wrong. I will see what I think of the next novella though and soon enough one more full length book. ~Michelle

I haven't read Devil's Gate yet, I am hoping the ebook price comes down. In the interim I can wait for Hunter's Season which is expected to be released September 18, 2012. The next full length book is Lord's Fall, with expected publication November 6, 2012. I suspect that one will be exceptional.
