Monday Spotlight

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Ahhh, it's my favorite holiday of the year, so what to highlight to fit with the day???? Why none other than...
The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice

Come now, it's a classic. This is where I got my start as an adult paranormal reader. I think everyone at some point has read at least a few of her books. Heck my favorite isn't even in the Vampire Chronicles. It's The Mummy or Ramses the Damned... check that one out if you haven't. Ok happy Tricks or Treats readers.

Reading Order:

Interview with the Vampire
The Vampire Lestat

The Queen of the Damned

The Tale of the Body Thief

Memnoch the Devil
The Vampire Armand

Merrick

The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice ~ V^^^^V
The begging for me (Michelle) was Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire. As a younger reader at the time, I saw the commercials for the movie and thought it looked fabulous. Followed up with the books. Have to say that the movies are NOWHERE near as good as the books (isn’t that always the way?). Anne Rice has set a standard in Vampire Fantasy novels. The Chronicles follow mainly her New Orleans vampires throughout History and introduce us to many characters. The historical interplay really captured my attention and kept me grasping for more. The later books involve scenarios best left for older readers, but I think that Young Adult Fiction fans would enjoy the first 5 of the Vampire Chronicles.

The Darkest Surrender (Lords of the Underworld, #8)The Darkest Surrender by Gena Showalter

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

AMAZING!!! What to say, what to say??? Honestly I absolutely LOVED this book. It seems the further into the series I get the more hooked I am. The story just gets better and better. Not to mention Harpies are the coolest chicks EVER. I literally could not put this book down until it was done.

Dangerous Pleasure (Bound Hearts, #12)Dangerous Pleasure by Lora Leigh

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Blah. I really could not get into this one. I think I may have gotten bored with the concept a few books back. I mean to me it seemed the story just drug on and then abruptly ended. I really never got into the characters and felt lost with all the names that were used.

Masters of Time by Brenda Joyce

Not normally a fan of Scottish Highland tales nor am I usually a fan of the period romance either. But this one, while very confusing at times, worked for me. Strange I know but there you have it... must be a mark of exceptional writing.

Dark Seduction
Dark Rival

Dark Embrace

Dark Lover

Masters of Time by Brenda Joyce ~ V^^^^V
Mmmmmmm, Highlanders. They have been sworn to protect the world from evil for all time. The Masters of Time series contains the Rose Trilogy and can be a bit confusing. The Highlanders travel back and forth through time and all characters interplay at various times, thus making things a bit confusing. That said, the characters are extremely interesting, the interplay is fun, the relationships are explosive and the romance is heartwarming. I would recommend it, but best read in order.

Awaken Me Darkly Gena Showalter

Awaken Me Darkly (Alien Huntress, #1)Awaken Me Darkly by Gena Showalter

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I kept feeling like something was about to happen at any moment. I think that must be the feeling of gripping reading. Anyway overall I liked it, at times I felt it was a little slow, yet at the end I felt it was rushed. Considering this is only the first in the series I will continue on and expect that, much like wine, it will improve as the story ages.

The League by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Time for one of my favorite authors again. Sherrilyn Kenyon has managed to get me to read a futuristic Sci Fi series! I never read this kind of stuff but once again she has me hooked. Truth be told it is an enjoyable romantic series and though it is not my ususal style I am still right there on new release day reading the next title. You should too.

The League by Sherrilyn Kenyon ~ V^^^^V
Sherrilyn Keyon’s Futuristic alien series is very different from her previous offerings but equally enjoyable. Based in the Ichidian Universe, we meet a group of vigilantes, known as The Sentella. The battle of good and evil is never as black and white is you want to believe. Excellent action, intense story lines and quintessential Kenyon sexuality. 5 Books to Date

Wolf Tales -Kate Douglas

Wolf Tales III (Wolf Tales #3)Wolf Tales III by Kate Douglas

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

DIRTY, DIRTY, DIRTY! I am glad that the story is taking on a bit more than just sex though. While a little erotica is good every now and then I need some substance to keep me coming back. That said this series requires that I take a break ever couple of books for a month or so.

Dream Warrior -Sherrilyn Kenyon

Dream Warrior (Dark-Hunter, #17; Dream-Hunter, #4)Dream Warrior by Sherrilyn Kenyon

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I love Sherrilyn Kenyon! LOL Honestly the Dream Hunters have never really been that great to me but I was hooked by this one. I am not sure if it was the interaction of some of the key characters or if it was just main characters was just that likable. At any rate I actually really liked this one. I have read reviews stating that there are too many theologies at work in this series and that the character list is just too long but I disagree. Sherrilyn has made her world very believable and covered all the details without beating the information into your head repeatedly. The story keeps getting better.

Deeper Than Midnight Review

Deeper Than Midnight (Midnight Breed, #9)Deeper Than Midnight by Lara Adrian

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Love Hunter! Great book, so many things happened I don't know where to begin. Honestly the story just leaped and I can hardly contain my excitement for the release of Darker After Midnight. I can't think of any specifics to say without spoilers so I will just say WOW!

Psy-Changeling Nalini Singh Reviewed

Kiss of Snow (Psy-Changeling, #10)Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Will review the whole series here.

Overall I found these to be very addictive. Once I started Slave to Sensation, I was hooked. Initially it is a lot to wrap your mind around; changelings are fairly common but the Psy are a whole new creature to understand. The writing was totally engrossing and the stories compelling. I actually liked some of the short stories more though for the simple fact there was a little less logistics and more romance. That is not to say that the full length books are not worth reading because they are. This is going into the top recommendation pile.

Mageverse Master of Shadows Review

Master of Shadows (Mageverse, #12)Master of Shadows by Angela Knight

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

It was good. Belle and Tristin are interesting enough characters and the writing hooked me back in. I couldn't put it down as usual. However I am more than anxious to read Miranda's story... How much longer? ;-)

One Grave at a Time Reviewed

One Grave at a Time (Night Huntress, #6)One Grave at a Time by Jeaniene Frost

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another great book from Jeaniene Frost. I can tell you that while One Grave at a Time does not top some of the earlier books, I was still hooked on the story. It was nice to catch up with some of the earlier characters and meet our new antagonist. Can't wait to read the newest anthology coming out at the end of this month.

Newest Carpathians Review

Dark Predator (Carpathians, #22)Dark Predator by Christine Feehan

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

I ran out of patience for this series awhile back and this book did not change my opinion. Zacharias is unlikeable. In my opinion he was emotionally abusive and too controlling. Marquarita clearly is the dim wit that Zacharias calls her as she just accepts his overbearing without any fight. Halfway through the book I was annoyed to the point of quitting but forced my way through. Not worth it in the end.

Also I think there are too many pages of "Carpathian Chants, family trees, language, etc. It is just too much. This was supposed to be a romance series now it feels it is trying TOO hard to become a fantasy series. Time to wrap it up.

I love me some Ops books. Hell any James Bond loving girl would want to read these kind of books, constant actions, gripping story lines and steamy romance; what's not to love??? Ok, so I haven't read these yet, truth is I have been eagerly waiting to read this one in October with you all. YAY! Review to follow at the end of the month. Happy Reading!
